Wishart’s Wishes

Who was Raymond Douglas Wishart?

The Wishart’s Wishes Foundation was created in the memory of Raymond Wishart.

He was the youngest son of David and Beatrice Wishart, husband of Diane Pinke Wishart, father of Rachelle (Don) Wishart Hundley and Rebekah Wishart and Granddaddio to Haidyn and Hendrix Hundley.

Raymond Douglas Wishart, 63, who spent his lifetime doing photography, creating amazing memories, and changing lives of  countless students passed away on Monday, August 22nd, 2016 as the results of a bicycle accident.

Ray grew up near Washington DC and moved to Florida after graduating high school.  He attended OWCC and UWF and majored in Industrial Arts Education. Ray joined the faclty of A. Crawford Mosley High School in 1976 and remained there until his retirement in June 2016.  He was lovingly called “Wish” by his students.  Besides teaching at Mosley, he also taught photography classes through local businesses.  In the early 2000s Ray decided he wanted to expand his religious interest, he started by teaching Education for Ministry classes, then attended seminary and was ordained as a Episcopal Deacon.

There was a joke among friends and family about Ray and ladders, he lost three times to ladders with the last time ending up in the hospital for a week after shattering his left leg. Trying to build up his leg after the recovery he took up bicycling, four bikes later and thousands of miles he regained 90% strength in his leg, lost weight and was in great health.  Bicycle safety was a priority with Ray and all that knew him would tell you that about him.  He would travel miles on his bike with his camera in his tote, always looking for things to photograph.

As results from our dear friends losing their daughter in an accident and watching the organ donor team make a sad time for one family a happy time for many families, Ray was committed to the cause. We  may have lost Raymond  but he continued to give to others all over United States, Canada, and Israel by being an organ and tissue donor.

If you lived 1,000 years you’d probably never meet another soul with more zest for life than Raymond Wishart.  A true man of God, Ray was as comfortable behind the pulpit as he was behind the lovingly hand-crafted bar at his own home and he was as likely to serve up as a beer as he was a line of scripture at any given moment.  Ray found God and the beauty of Mother Nature everywhere, as were shown in the thousands of photos he took.
